Course Description

According to the National Sleep Foundation, up to 72 percent of us experience disrupted sleep at least a few nights a week. Designed to help people who have problems getting a good night’s sleep, you learn will learn about sleep and ways to improve your sleep. The workshop teaches poor sleepers how to modify stressful, inaccurate thoughts about sleep, modify disruptive or negative sleep behaviors, improve relaxation skills, and improve lifestyle practices that affect sleep.

Course Objectives    
    -establish sleep promoting habits and lifestyle practices
    -changing negative, stressful thoughts about sleep
    -implementing relaxation and stress-reducing techniques

Course Outline
    -Basic facts about sleep
    -Conducting your own insomnia
    -Sleep scheduling and stimulus control techniques
    -Changing your thoughts about sleep
    -Over the counter sleep medication tapering techniques
    -Daytime relaxation techniques
    -Developing stress-reducing, sleep-enhancing attitudes and beliefs
    -Bedtime relaxation techniques
    -Lifestyle habits that improve sleep

You will learn about your personal sleep patters, and modify thoughts and behaviors to get a better night sleep. All students will need a copy of "Say Good Night to Insomnia" by Gregg Jacobs (available at most bookstores or from Amazon.com from the “Favorite Things” tab on my website.
